"My grandfather’s devotion to family, his team and his faith have been woven into my upbringing” says Managing Director, James Nihill. "While I never met him, his legendary strength of character has always been impressed upon me by my family".
Patrick Leo Nihill started life on a farm in Creek View, Runnymede, Victoria. He was just 23 when he enlisted and was assigned to the 38th Battalion, serving in France between 1916-1918.
Patrick didn’t share stories or experiences from the war, but accounts from his mates in the trenches, told of heroic efforts and selflessness. During this time his bravery was recognised and he was awarded several medals including: Distinguished Conduct Medal, Military Medal, British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
